Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment.
Beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy, about 2 minutes.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Gradually stir this into the butter mixture.
Fold in the oats and raisins. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes so the oats can begin soaking up the moisture—this helps keep the cookies pleasantly chewy.
Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between them.
Bake for 9–11 minutes, until the edges are golden but the centers still look slightly soft. Don’t overbake, dear; they firm up as they cool.
Cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
