Spicy Jamaican Beef Patties

Ingredients:

For the Pastry:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

For the Filling:
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs

For Egg Wash:
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:

Prepare the Pastry:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, turmeric, curry powder, and salt.
- Add the chilled butter and use your fingers to rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add the cold water and mix until the dough comes together. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Prepare the Filling:
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Add the onion, garlic, curry powder, thyme, allspice, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Stir in the beef broth and breadcrumbs. Cook until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Assemble the Patties:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the pastry dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a round cutter, cut out circles.
- Place a spoonful of the beef filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
- Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Patties:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and water to make the egg wash. Brush the patties with the egg wash.
