Heat your oven to 350°F. Grease an 8-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment, dear—almond flour cakes are tender and appreciate a little help coming out.
In a bowl, whisk together the almond flour, cocoa powder, sweetener, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Break up any cocoa lumps.
In another bowl, whisk the eggs, almond milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth.
Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Fold in the sugar-free chocolate chips if using. Don’t overmix, or the cake may turn dense.
Spread the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 22–25 minutes, until the center is set and a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer it to a rack. Cool completely before slicing; patience really lets the chocolate flavor bloom.
