One brisk morning, I decided to reinvent breakfast, and voilà! This savory oatmeal came to life, combining hearty ingredients that warm your soul. This dish is a breeze to make and brings comfort in every bite.
Ingredients
- 1 cup bone broth
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 2 frozen breakfast sausage links, cooked and crumbled
- 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed
- 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup fresh spinach, roughly chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped chives or green onions (optional, for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
- In a small skillet, toast the rolled oats over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until they are slightly golden and fragrant.
- In a small saucepan, heat the bone broth over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
- Stir the toasted oats and ground flaxseed into the simmering bone broth and allow them to cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and have absorbed most of the broth.
- While the oats are cooking, in a separate skillet, cook the frozen sausage links according to package instructions until fully cooked. Once cooked, crumble them into bite-sized pieces.
- Once the oats are ready, stir in the chopped spinach, crumbled sausage, and shredded cheddar cheese, mixing until the cheese is melted, the spinach is wilted, and everything is well combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped chives or green onions if desired.
Flavor Profile
This savory oatmeal is a delightful medley of flavors and textures. The umami from the bone broth and sausage pairs perfectly with the brightness of the fresh spinach and the mild sharpness of the cheddar cheese. The toasted oats add a warm, nutty essence, while the ground flaxseed provides a wholesome earthiness. It’s a fulfilling breakfast that’s both hearty and nourishing!
