These homemade waffles are a perfect blend of wholesome oats and flour, delicately kissed with cinnamon. They're fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside—ideal for a breakfast or brunch treat!
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Cooking Instructions
-
Prepare the Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Whisk together until well blended.
-
Mix the Wet Ingredients:
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, then stir in the milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), and vanilla extract until combined.
-
Combine Wet and Dry:
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined; it's okay if there are a few lumps—do not overmix!
-
Preheat the Waffle Iron:
- Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure it’s hot and lightly greased for the best results.
-
Cook the Waffles:
- Pour enough batter into the preheated waffle iron to cover the surface (usually about 1/2 to 3/4 cup per waffle, depending on your iron). Close the lid and cook until golden brown and crisp (typically around 4-6 minutes, but check your iron's instructions).
-
Serve:
- Carefully remove the waffles and keep them warm in a low oven while you continue to cook the remaining batter. Serve hot with a drizzle of honey and your choice of fresh fruits or toppings.
Flavor Profile
These classic waffles have a warm oats flavor with light sweetness. The addition of cinnamon adds subtle complexity without overpowering the dish. The texture is beautifully fluffy, perfect for soaking up the honey or syrup and complementing fresh fruits like berries or sliced bananas that you might choose to top them with.
Enjoy these scrumptious waffles! If you have any alterations or additions you’d like to make, just let me know. Happy cooking!
