This easy-to-make mac and cheese is perfect for a quick and comforting meal. The sauce is lusciously creamy, and the pasta is nicely coated with the cheese sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 lb elbow macaroni
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook macaroni according to package directions, making sure to salt the water generously. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour and whisk to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes, whisking constantly, until mixture becomes light brown and fragrant.
- Gradually whisk in milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Cook for 5-7 minutes, whisking occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
- Add cheddar cheese, whisking until the cheese is melted and fully incorporated into the sauce.
- Add cooked macaroni to the sauce, stirring to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve hot, garnished with a sprinkle of chopped parsley.
The key to getting the sauce super creamy is to whisk constantly when adding the milk, and to let everything cook together for a bit before adding the cheese. Hope you enjoy this classic comfort food recipe!
