Backstory
"Desi Thunder" is inspired by the rich and diverse flavors of South Asian cuisine, perfect for those who crave a little kick in their drink! This beverage combines the refreshing notes of tangy tamarind, a hint of spice from chili, and the vibrancy of fresh herbs, ensuring it is delicious, invigorating, and can last long on the shelves.
Ingredients
- 1 cup tamarind pulp
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon black salt (kala namak)
- 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1-2 green chilies, chopped (adjust according to spice preference)
- Juice of 2 limes
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
- Optional: 1 teaspoon chat masala for garnish
- Optional: Preservative (if necessary, depending on how you plan to store it)
Cooking Instructions
-
Prepare Tamarind Base:
- In a bowl, dissolve the tamarind pulp in 2 cups of warm water. Let it sit for about 20-30 minutes to extract the flavor. Afterward, strain the mixture into a large pitcher, discarding the solids.
-
Mix the Flavors:
- Add the remaining 2 cups of water to the tamarind liquid.
- Stir in the sugar until dissolved, adjusting sweetness to your preference.
-
Spice It Up:
- Add black salt, roasted cumin powder, chopped green chilies, and lime juice. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
-
Add Freshness:
- Drop in the chopped mint leaves and give it another stir. Allow it to steep for about 15-20 minutes for the flavors to meld together.
-
Strain and Store:
- For a smoother texture, strain the mixture again if desired. Transfer to clean, sterilized bottles for storage.
- If you wish to preserve longer, consider adding an appropriate preservative according to regulations for shelf-stable drinks.
-
Chill and Serve:
- Keep refrigerated and serve chilled over ice. Garnish with a sprinkle of chat masala for an extra punch!
