Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- ¾ cup whole milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup finely chopped apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for rolling)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (for rolling)
- Oil for frying
Cooking Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the chopped apples.
- In a large, deep pot, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, use a spoon or small cookie scoop to drop about a tablespoon of batter into the oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
- Fry until the donut holes are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the donut holes from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- While they are still warm, mix the sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl for rolling and toss the fried donut holes in the mixture until they’re beautifully coated.
- Serve warm and enjoy the heavenly flavors!
