Classic Stovetop Mac and Cheese

This creamy and cheesy mac and cheese recipe is quick and easy to make. It’s a classic comfort food that everyone will love.
Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until thick and bubbly.
- Slowly whisk in the milk. Cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the pot with the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.
- Serve hot and enjoy your comforting mac and cheese!
Note: For a more decadent mac and cheese, you can add 1/2 cup of heavy cream and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg to the cheese sauce.
