Creamy Stovetop Mac and Cheese

This creamy and cheesy mac and cheese is quick and easy to make on the stovetop. It's a perfect comfort food dish that will satisfy your cravings.
Ingredients:
- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional toppings: crispy bacon bits, chopped scallions, breadcrumbs
Instructions:

In a large pot, cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until it turns into a smooth paste.

Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid any lumps. Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the shredded cheddar cheese to the pot, reserving a small amount for topping if desired. Stir until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.

Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper to taste.

Add the cooked macaroni to the pot and stir until it is well coated with the cheese sauce.

If desired, top the mac and cheese with the reserved shredded cheese, crispy bacon bits, chopped scallions, or breadcrumbs.
