Creamy Stovetop Mac and Cheese

Ingredients:
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
Instructions:
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly for about 1-2 minutes to make a roux.
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to create a smooth sauce.
- Cook the sauce until it thickens, then reduce the heat to low.
- Add the shredded cheddar cheese to the sauce and stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Season the cheese sauce with salt, black pepper, and paprika for extra flavor.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the macaroni is well coated.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes on low heat to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Serve the creamy stovetop mac and cheese hot, garnished with a sprinkle of additional shredded cheese, if desired.
