Creamy Stovetop Mac and Cheese

Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 cups whole milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook until al dente, following the package instructions.
- While the macaroni is cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook for 5-7 minutes, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it melts. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drain the macaroni and add it to the sauce. Stir to combine and serve immediately.
