Garlic naan is a warm, fluffy bread that makes every bite of chicken tikka masala even more enjoyable. The aroma of garlic wafts through your kitchen, making it an irresistible treat!
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm water (between 100°F to 110°F)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (or any cooking oil)
- 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
- Melted butter (for brushing once cooked)
Cooking Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In the bowl of your mixer, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Give it a little mix with the paddle attachment.
- Once the yeast mixture is frothy, pour it into the flour mixture along with the olive oil.
- Switch to the dough hook and mix on low speed until a shaggy dough forms.
- Increase the speed to medium and continue to knead the dough for about 5 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball.
- On a floured surface, roll each dough ball into an oval or circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Sprinkle minced garlic over each rolled naan. If you like, you can also sprinkle chopped herbs at this point. Gently press the garlic into the dough.
- Heat a skillet or tava over medium-high heat. When hot, place one naan on the skillet.
- Cook for about 1-2 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from heat, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with chopped cilantro or parsley if desired.
- Repeat with the remaining pieces of dough.
