This dish is a one-pan wonder that brings the vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean to your dinner table. The combination of ground beef, savory onions, and aromatic spices creates a comforting meal that is both satisfying and healthy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (preferably lean)
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup long-grain rice (brown rice is a great option for more fiber)
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth or water
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (with juices)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, and paprika.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juices), rice, and beef broth (or water). Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and has absorbed the liquid.
- Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra zing!
Flavor Profile Explanation
This dish offers a savory and hearty flavor profile thanks to the ground beef and the aromatic combination of onions and spices. The addition of tomatoes brings a slight acidity that balances the richness of the beef, while the fresh lemon adds brightness to each bite.
Low Inflammation Diet Friendliness Explanation
The use of lean ground beef provides protein without too much saturated fat. The spices like oregano and thyme have anti-inflammatory properties, and using brown rice adds fiber which is beneficial for gut health. Additionally, fresh parsley not only enhances flavor but also offers antioxidants.
