Backstory: This delightful pizza sauce blends the freshness of diced tomatoes with fragrant herbs, making it the perfect base for your favorite pizza creation!
Ingredients
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (or about 2 cups of fresh diced tomatoes)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil (or 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for depth)
- Fresh parsley or additional basil for garnish (optional)
Cooking Instructions
- Heat the Olive Oil: In a medium saucepan, warm the olive oil over medium heat.
- Sauté Garlic: Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn it!
- Add Tomatoes: Stir in the diced tomatoes, along with their juices. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Season the Sauce: Add in the onion powder, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Stir well.
- Simmer: Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help meld the flavors and thicken the sauce slightly.
- Finish Off: If you like, stir in the balsamic vinegar for extra flavor. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Garnish and Use: If desired, sprinkle with fresh parsley or additional basil before using the sauce on your pizza.
