Homemade Shake and Bake Chicken Drumsticks

This recipe will deliver tender, juicy, and crispy chicken drumsticks that rival any store-bought shake and bake mix. The key to achieving a crispy texture is by baking at a high enough temperature, but not over-baking.
Ingredients
- 6-8 chicken drumsticks
- 1 1/2 cups bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
- To make the coating mixture, combine bread crumbs, flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper in a bowl.
- Brush each chicken drumstick generously with vegetable oil.
- Dip each chicken drumstick into the coating mixture, making sure it’s well-coated on all sides.
- Place the chicken drumsticks on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.
