Lembas bread is a special type of Elvish bread that was featured in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. It is also known as "waybread" and was said to be packed full of nutrients to sustain you on a long journey. Here is a recipe to make your own Lembas bread at home:
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup butter, room temperature
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/4 cup cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C)
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
- In another bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, and honey together.
- Gradually add in the flour mixture, cream, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until the dough is smooth.
- Divide the dough into eight portions and roll each one out into a round circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut each circle into quarters and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Use a fork to prick each quarter to prevent air bubbles from forming.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, allow to cool, and store in an airtight container.
The flavor profile of Lembas bread is slightly sweet and nutty, with a hint of vanilla and cream. It makes the perfect snack for when you're on a long journey or in need of a quick pick-me-up.
