LowFat Banana Bread with Dark Chocolate Chips

Ingredients:
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (or coconut sugar)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (70% cocoa or higher)
- Optional: 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans for added texture
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, applesauce, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth.
- In another bowl, whisk together the baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and whole wheat flour.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- Gently fold in the dark chocolate chips and, if using, the nuts.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
