Milk Butter Sandwich Bread

- 4 cups fresh milled flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- Additional milk for brushing (optional)
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the fresh milled flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape it into a loaf.
- Place the loaf into a greased 9x5 inch loaf pan, cover again, and let it rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- (Optional) Brush the top of the loaf with a little milk for a nice golden crust.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
