- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup shortening (softened)
- ½ cup brown sugar (packed)
- ¼ cup corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened shortening and brown sugar until fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add in the corn syrup and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Fold in the chopped pecans.
- Spread the cookie bar batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
