Ingredients
- 1 pound ground sausage (spicy or mild, depending on your preference)
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
- 1 large onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a blend)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley for garnishing (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground sausage to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Make sure to drain excess fat if necessary.
- In a large bowl, combine sliced potatoes, cooked sausage mixture, milk, paprika, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread evenly and top with shredded cheese.
- Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. After that, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden.
- Once baked, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired before serving.
