Making your own wine from guava juice is a rewarding process, and it fills your home with a sweet aroma. This recipe is straightforward and allows the natural sweetness of guava to shine through.
Ingredients
- 1 gallon (approximately 4 liters) of guava juice (fresh or store-bought)
- 2 cups of sugar (adjust to taste for sweetness)
- 1 packet of wine yeast (preferably champagne yeast)
- Clean water (to dilute if necessary)
Instructions
- Prepare Your Equipment: Ensure all your equipment, including your fermentation vessel, is sanitized to prevent unwanted bacteria.
- Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the guava juice and sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. If you’d like, add a bit of clean water to dilute the juice if it’s too strong.
- Add Yeast: Sprinkle the wine yeast over the dissolved guava mixture. Let it sit for about 10 minutes before stirring it in gently.
- Ferment: Pour the mixture into your fermentation vessel. Cover it with a cloth to allow it to breathe and place it in a warm, dark spot. Let it ferment for about 1 to 2 weeks, stirring daily.
- Check Fermentation: You'll know fermentation is complete when the bubbling has slowed down considerably.
- Bottle It Up: Strain the wine through a cheesecloth or fine mesh to remove any solids, then pour it into clean bottles. Seal them well.
- Aging: Since you haven’t added a stabilizer, it’s a good idea to let the wine age in a cool, dark place for at least 2-3 months, and keep an eye on it for any fermentation activity.
Flavor Profile
This guava wine is sweet, fruity, and refreshing, capturing the tropical essence of guava. With age, it will develop a richer, more complex flavor that beautifully balances sweetness with the natural acidity of the juice.
