When life gives you a beautiful ham, why not add a touch of whiskey to elevate the flavor? This pulled ham recipe will result in succulent bites that are perfect for sandwiches or served with your favorite sides.
Ingredients
- 2.1 kg bone-in ham
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup whiskey (bourbon works nicely)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 120°C (250°F).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, whiskey, melted butter, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern, which will help the glaze penetrate and create a beautiful crust.
- Place the ham in a roasting pan and pour the whiskey glaze evenly over the ham, making sure to get it into the scored sections.
- Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
- Roast the ham for about 5-6 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 68°C (155°F). Baste the ham with the glaze every hour for maximum flavor.
- Once done, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Use two forks to shred the ham into pulled pieces, mixing it with the glaze in the pan.
- Serve the pulled ham warm, either in sandwiches or with your favorite sides.
