Backstory: In the quaint village of Hogsmeade, the Three Broomsticks is known for serving a frothy, sweet beverage called Butterbeer. Taking inspiration from this beloved drink, these Butterbeer Cupcakes bring the flavors of the wizarding world to your kitchen.
Ingredients
For the cupcakes:
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup cream soda
For the butterscotch frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup butterscotch syrup
- 1-2 tablespoons cream or milk
For the topping:
- Butterscotch chips, for garnish (optional)
Cooking Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
-
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
-
Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk and cream soda. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
-
Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling them about 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
While the cupcakes cool, prepare the butterscotch frosting. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, until smooth and fluffy. Mix in the butterscotch syrup and add cream or milk as needed to achieve a spreadable consistency.
-
Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, frost them generously with the butterscotch frosting. You can use a piping bag or simply spread it on with a knife.
-
For an optional finishing touch, sprinkle butterscotch chips over the frosting to garnish.
Your Butterbeer Cupcakes are now ready to enjoy! They offer a delightful combination of sweet and creamy flavors with a hint of butterscotch. Perfect for any occasion or whenever you feel like indulging in a little bit of wizarding magic in your own kitchen!
