This creamy classic hummus recipe is a staple in Arabic cuisine and makes for a perfect dip or spread.
Ingredients:
- 1 can (15 oz) of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup of tahini
- 2-3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
- Salt to taste
- 2-3 tablespoons of water (adjust for desired consistency)
- Optional toppings: a drizzle of olive oil, paprika, or parsley
Instructions:
- In a food processor, combine the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, minced garlic, olive oil, cumin, and a pinch of salt.
- Blend the mixture until smooth, pausing to scrape down the sides as needed.
- While blending, gradually add water until you reach your desired creamy consistency.
- Taste and adjust seasoning by adding more salt or lemon juice if needed.
- Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl, create a swirl on top with the back of a spoon, and drizzle with olive oil.
- Sprinkle with paprika or chopped parsley for a pop of color and extra flavor.
- Serve with warm pita bread, fresh vegetables, or use as a spread on sandwiches.
