This creamy and easy stovetop Mac and Cheese is perfect for quick weeknight meals. Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 4 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 ounces shredded Parmesan cheese
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook the macaroni in salted boiling water according to package instructions.
- While the pasta cooks, melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring occasionally, until mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the heat and add the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses. Stir until the cheese is melted and smooth.
- Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drain the cooked macaroni and return it to the pot. Add the cheese sauce to the pot and stir until well combined.
