This is a classic mac and cheese recipe that will fill your home with comforting aromas and satisfy your cheese cravings in no time!
Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (you can also mix in other cheeses like Gouda or Monterey Jack for added flavor)
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Once the butter has melted, whisk in the flour until smooth. Keep stirring for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture starts to turn golden.
- Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent any lumps from forming.
- Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to the saucepan.
- Let the mixture come to a simmer, still whisking, and cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheese until completely melted and smooth.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the cooked macaroni and stir until the pasta is coated evenly.
- Serve hot and garnish with Parmesan cheese if desired.
Enjoy the gooey, decadent goodness of homemade mac and cheese! If you want to add more flavor to the mac and cheese, try adding cooked bacon, diced jalapenos or chopped fresh herbs like parsley or chives.
