Flan is a beloved dessert in many cultures, known for its creamy texture and sweet caramel topping. It's a treat that showcases the magic of milk and eggs, transforming simple ingredients into a rich indulgence.
Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup water (for caramel)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cooking Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then let it boil without stirring until it turns a golden amber color.
- Quickly pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting it to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Carefully pour the milk-egg mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
- Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill the outer pan with water to create a water bath.
- Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges, invert it onto a plate, and watch the caramel drizzle down the sides!
