Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, pour buttermilk over chicken pieces, making sure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
-
In another bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt until well combined.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer until it reaches 350°F.
-
Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
-
Place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
-
Use tongs to transfer the chicken to a wire rack set over a baking sheet to cool and drain excess oil.
-
Serve your crispy fried chicken with your favorite sides and enjoy!
