This recipe takes the classic comfort food of fried chicken and spices it up for an extra kick. The chicken is crispy and golden brown on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside, with an extra pop of heat.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 2 tablespoons cayenne pepper
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, pour buttermilk over chicken pieces, making sure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
-
In another bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, chili powder, black pepper, and salt until well combined.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer until it reaches 350°F.
-
Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
-
Place the chicken pieces in the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
