Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (can be seasoned or plain)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (or your favorite herb)
- Optional: chopped fresh parsley for garnishing
Cooking Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until they are translucent and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Let them cool slightly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, sautéed onions, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and dried thyme. Mix until fully combined, but be careful not to overmix.
- Transfer the meat mixture to a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf. Spread a thin layer of ketchup on top for added flavor and moisture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
