These Mayak Eggs are beautifully marinated in a savory, lightly sweet sauce that captures the essence of Korean flavors, minus the spice for a child-friendly dish. Enjoy them as a snack, part of a meal, or on top of rice!
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 120 ml soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
- 30 g brown sugar (or honey)
- 15 ml sesame oil
- 15 ml rice vinegar
- 5 g minced garlic (optional; reduce for milder flavor)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Chopped green onions (for garnish)
Instructions
-
Boil the Eggs: Place the eggs in a pot and cover them with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, cover the pot, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for 10-12 minutes. Then, transfer the eggs to an ice bath to cool.
-
Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and minced garlic until the sugar is dissolved.
-
Peel the Eggs: Once the eggs have cooled, gently tap them on a hard surface to crack the shell, then peel them carefully.
-
Marinate the Eggs: Place the peeled eggs in a clean jar or a shallow dish, and pour the marinade over them. Make sure the eggs are well-coated. Seal the jar or cover the dish tightly, and refrigerate for at least 4-6 hours, or overnight for the best flavor.
-
Serve: Once marinated, slice the eggs in half, and sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.
