Shahi paneer is a rich and creamy Indian curry made with soft paneer (Indian cottage cheese) and a delicious tomato-cream sauce. It is a popular vegetarian dish that is often served at special occasions and celebrations across India. Here's how to make it:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups paneer, cut into bite-sized cubes
- 4 tablespoons ghee or clarified butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons ginger paste
- 2 teaspoons garlic paste
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 teaspoons ground coriander
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 cup tomato puree
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves, for serving
Instructions:

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt ghee or clarified butter. Add finely chopped onion and sauté until it starts to turn golden brown.

Add ginger paste and garlic paste and cook for another minute.

Mix in ground cumin, coriander, garam masala, and red chili powder. Cook for another minute while stirring.

Add tomato puree and cook until the mixture thickens, stirring regularly.

Stir in paneer cubes and heavy cream. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your liking.

Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro leaves. Shahi paneer goes well with rice or naan bread.
